Morning Coffee Break: Ode to the French Press

I’m struggling a bit this morning with my internet access out here in North Dakota, so I thought I’d take a moment for a quick coffee break. If you’re not a coffee drinker, I’m not quite sure how to describe my morning coffee ritual other than to say it’s one of my favorite parts of the day. In our home we’re big on really good coffee and no morning is complete or really ever gets started until the first cups are being sipped. We’re decidedly of the French press, vintage percolator or pour-over coffee making variety. The auto-drip coffee maker was banned many moons ago and shan’t be making a return. That said, our French press recently took a fall from grace so I’m on the hunt to replace this well-loved member of the family. The great debate? Deciding between this gold French press or switching things up with a pretty Chemex pour-over coffee maker. Big decisions, friends, big decisions.

I have a grind and brew Melita, pour in the whole beans and out comes a fresh pot. I drink coffee off and on all day and wintertime I love bit of Kahlua in mine topped with whipped topping or use my frother to make a good topping. My frother was $14.00 years ago off QVC: runs on 4 AA batteries that last a year or more… Everyone around me has the Krups one cup @ a time thing but I refuse to give up my Mill and brew. It is my second one. Home made Kahlua is also a great gift. I get my friends to donate all their Bud Lite platium blue bottles.

Love the taste of coffee from my Chemex and it's simple to clean or even keep warm on the stovetop. Not to be a downer, but the grounds that inevitably get into your coffee from a French press, over a loooong time, can increase your risk of cancers. Paper filters negate this downside.

Nate and I are obsessed with french press. I bought him one for his birthday and since then we threw out our old coffee maker. Ha!

I'm obsessed with my French press and Trader Joes coffee. I actually use any electric French press the boils the water in seconds for me. Love it. Enjoy your trip.

Using my French press is one of my favorite things. There's just something so relaxing about it (and the coffee is always fantastic).

That Chemex is pretty gorgeous too, I can see you dilemma!
