Mike’s Surprise Party – The Invitations

When planning Mike’s party I knew I wanted the invitations to be something clean, simple and masculine, because that’s Mike’s style. A point of note – Mike is obsessed with the newspaper. (In the best possible way, of course.) I knew I wanted to line the envelopes in something fabulous and immediately decided to use clippings from the sports section of the local paper. One $0.50 newspaper was more than enough paper to line all of the envelopes so it was not only fun and a nice little ode to a side of Mike’s personality I adore, but it was also extremely budget-friendly.

While I knew exactly how I wanted to layout the invitations themselves, I am a bit of an Illustrator novice and the spacing was giving me trouble so I called on my girl Carolynn of Two Brunettes to help me out with that aspect. I dictated my vision and the wording to her and she laid them out perfectly. I hunted around for a fun slab serif font and ended up going with Slab Tall X from dafont. (Free fonts are my favorite.) The invitations were square to fit Paper Source 5-3/4″ envelopes and they were printed digitally at a local print shop for about $25 including the little insert cards, which were tied to the invitation with red and white striped baker’s twine. Guests were asked to don their favorite sports team regalia for the occasion, which many of them did.

Would you mind sharing the wording for the invitations? I am working on a surprise party for my husbands 30th, but I can't seem to get the wording down and yours sounds perfect (I just can't read it all). Thanks so much!!!
