When we bought our house last spring, we realized soon after that there was an old flag carefully rolled up in the foyer closet. The first morning that we woke up in the house after moving in following three insane weeks of renovations, the flag came out. We opened up the big double doors onto the front porch, slid the flag pole into place, and with that one simple action we felt completely at home. I’ve become really sentimental about that flag in the months since and it’s actually one of my favorite things about the entire house. Knowing the little old lady who lived here before us put that same flag out on the front porch for however many years gets me every time I think about it. Maybe I’m alone in this, but a well placed flag can bring on the best kind of nostalgia for me, which is why I believe everything should be star spangled and colored red, white and blue this time of year. Bring on these homemade star printed napkins! They’re one of the easiest 4th of July crafts you’ll ever make, but they’ll have such a huge visual impact on your festivities.
Summer entertaining
This post was created in collaboration with Lunazul Tequila. One sip, and you know. Thank you for supporting the sponsors that help make The Sweetest Occasion possible! Since closing on our house a few months ago, we’ve been doing quite a bit of entertaining even by our standards. Of course we love to entertain as it is, but …
Fresh, fun and fruity colors are clearly my summer obsession at the moment. If it’s bright and punchy, I want to soak up every little bit. I’m working on a project currently where I’m working as many saturated fruit-inspired hues in as I can and I have to say, there’s nothing quite like bright summer …
I make no secret of the fact that by the time summer comes along I have about zero interest in being kept inside. Once the sun is shining and the days grow long, I’m all about getting outside and enjoying every minute. Give me sunscreen and bug spray and send me out into the woods …
Last week we talked about summer essentials for a day at the beach, and today we’re talking about backyard summer parties! I find summer entertaining so joyful and, frankly, so easy. It doesn’t take much more than food on the grill, frosty drinks and a few well-placed candles to make a crowd happy. But if …
Perfect for summer entertaining, pretty pitchers are perfect as vases or for serving up cocktails! See six of my favorites perfect for parties all summer long.
Our second annual pool party is next weekend so I’ve got full-on party brain at the moment. I’m loving bright citrus colored patterns and stripes right now and I think this bright tomato red market umbrella would be perfect for our patio. For pool parties I like to keep it simple with big pitchers of …
I am in full-on summer vacation mode over here this week. All I want to do is laze by the water, read a good book, take impromptu road trips and spend my evenings by a bonfire. I am loving this beach bonfire spread from What Katie Ate today. It’s the perfect inspiration for a quiet …
