I bookmarked this recipe for homemade vanilla extract a few months ago, but was jut reminded of it when Joy put together a little recap of her last two years of blogging as Joy the Baker. If you do any baking at all, you probably know how expensive a good quality vanilla extract is, which is why I love the idea of giving homemade vanilla extract as wedding favors, especially if you and your honey are known for being foodies or lovers of sweets. Although, certainly, favors should in no way be limited to just weddings. Bridal showers, birthday parties, a brunch on a random weekend with your favorite gal pals – all fair game for fabulous favors in my world.
Once you’ve made the extract, bottle it up in a cute bottle tied with ribbon and slap on a simple DIY label noted with the occasion and the date. In particular, I’m loving these amber apothecary bottles, these pretty jewel-toned bottles from IKEA, and these glass jars with stoppers. I love favors that are simple, thoughtful and a reflection of those giving them and these definitely fit the bill perfectly.

LOVE IT. For Christmas we did gifts of vanilla vodka and vanilla sugar ... vanilla extract would the perfect accompaniment!

Some of my 2009 clients did that, it was fantastic! I just used up the last of the bottle a month ago, it was delicious.
